If we are to believe that the most effective way to lose weight and keep it off is to by stabalising your blood sugar and insulin response to food, then we need to pay attention to the ways to achieve this. Keeping the blood sugar balanced depends not only on what we eat but also when we eat it.<br />

Firstly we need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in our diets. We also need choose foods/carbohydrates with a  low glycemic-load (GL), combine carbohydrates with protein and cut back on stimulants and stress.<br />

I am about to share an article I found while cruising the Internet. It is written by USA Today. I was almost physically ill when I read it. It made me realize what an idiot I have been for almost 50 years of trying to lose weight. I have spent a small fortune on gyms, weight watcher meetings ,multiple types of weight loss diet plan, keeping various sizes of clothing available at all times, and all this time, all I had to do was write down what I was eating!<br />
<P><br />
According to this USA Today article, dieters who write down everything they eat each day lose twice as much weight as those who don&#8217;t and this is based on one of the largest weight-loss studies ever conducted. This confirms the importance of keeping a food diary — advice that nutritionists and weight loss programs have pushed for years. I do seem to remember being told to do this, but it flew right over my head.<br />
<P><br />
Scientists at four clinical research centers recruited 1,685 overweight or obese adults who weighed an average 212 pounds. Forty-four percent were African Americans.<br />
<P><br />
The participants were offered 20 weekly group sessions led by nutritionists and behavior counselors and encouraged to try to lose at least 9 pounds in six months. They were told to consume about 500 fewer calories a day, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, do about 180 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, and keep daily food and exercise records. This was the only weight loss regime they had to perform. <P><br />
After 6 months, they found out that the ones who wrote down what they ate every day lost twice as much weight as the ones who didn&#8217;t. I am beside myself with anger. I figure the physical activity alone of writing all that down ought to amount to a few pounds of weight loss.<br />

Likewise if one spouse becomes obese the likelihood of the other spouse becoming obese is increased by 37%. In mutual friends the risk increased by 171%. The researchers of the study believe that it should be possible to harness the same force to slow the spread of obesity.<br />

Weight loss and fitness clubs are not new to us. Weight Watchers and Slimming World being two that have been successfully helping individuals with their weight loss for many years utilizing the power of social support.<br />

Most people who are striving to lose weight will be aware that there are some essential elements that are crucial to a successful weight loss campaign. Good nutrition is vital as is the addition of resistance and cardio training. More recently it has been agreed that another important element is mental attitude and the need to be positive. The fact is, there are no easy answers or magic weight loss secrets that can help you drop the pounds. As most diet experts will tell you, whatever diet you choose, there is going to be some deprivation, some sweat, and some plain old hard work if you want to achieve weight loss success. 2. Eat plenty of whole grains. Have seven to eight servings per day of grains and grain products (these can include breakfast cereal, whole grain bread, rice, pasta, etc.)<br />

3. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetable. Having at least eight to 10 servings of a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables will ensure you get all the healthy antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber you need.<br />

4. Dairy up. Consuming two to three servings daily of low-fat or nonfat diary foods will also help build strong bones and teeth, and enhance weight loss.<br />
<P><br />
5. Limit meat, fish, and poultry to two servings a day. Move the meat off the center of your plate, and enjoy more grains and produce. When you do have meats, fish, and poultry, always chose lean varieties.<br />

6. Go nuts. Incorporate four to five servings a week of nuts, seeds, and legumes into your diet. They provide plenty of protein and healthful fats.<br />

7. Limit fats and oil to two to three servings per day. Fats are the most concentrated source of calories. Limiting them will help you control your weight.<br />

8. Hold the salt. Limit your sodium intake to approximately 2,400 milligrams a day (a moderate level). This means eating fewer canned and processed foods, and more fresh foods.<br />

The following information is about weight loss tips to help you lose weight.  You know, ideas and tips from folks who have been there, done that, credible sources. You have looked in the mirror and made the decision it is now time to get serious about that 20-30-40 lbs you have been avoiding dealing with for years. Maybe it is not looking in the mirror that got you to this point. For me, who always avoided the mirror, it was a life crisis. I had a heart attack. After a long heart to heart talk with my cardiologist, no pun intended, I decided it was time to start the weight loss war. As a person who grew up in the South and who was fed meat, gravy and potatoes for most of my life, I was completely clueless to what this natural weight loss journey was going to entail. I will share a few of the basic principles I have discovered in the last fifteen years since the decision was made.<br />
<P><br />

First of all, natural weight loss is not that big of a deal. It&#8217;s a scientific principle. Expend more calories than you consume. There, pretty simple huh? At this point, you have my permission to call me many ugly names. I am being a smart aleck, but it really does come down to a few basic things you need to change in your life. Eat right and move that body.<br />

This sounds easy to follow, but still many continue to struggle in the battle of weight loss.<br />

This is probably the worst way to lose weight and will probably just make you give up in your battle and you will lose the weight loss war.<br />

When you skip meals you will also cause  hypoglycemia, your blood sugar gets really low, and will usually just results in making you eat twice as much at the next meal. It also gets harder for you to control your eating habits and weight.<br />

What can I eat?<br />

A reasonable approach for losing weight is to stick to a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates, high in fiber, moderate in protein, and low in fat.<br />

For example complex carbohydrates can be found in potatoes and baked potatoes, proteins can be found in lean cuts of meat and fiber can be found in vegetables.<br />

This also makes a great and healthy weight loss meal.<br />

This is also why you can eat perfectly ordinary and healthy food while losing weight, as long as you don&#8217;t overeat it or add to many fats to it.<br />

For example avoid the cream in the baked potato, the fat gravy to the meat and the oil you are frying the food in. These are the ingredients that can make you fat.<br />

So continue to eat healthy and ordinary food while losing weight, preferable 4-5 smaller meals or more per day to speed up your body&#8217;s fat burning metabolism, and stop starving yourself! For anyone who has tried to stick to a weight loss diet you know how hard it can be. Dieting takes some dedication and stickability. Sometimes we can end up back where we started or worst still even putting on a few more pounds. Here are some suggestions to help you to lose weight without losing interest in your goal for weight loss.<BR><br />
<P><br />
1) Eliminating all the foods you love can be difficult. It would help if you try to eat lower calorie versions of them. Go for the low fat and low sugar versions and make sure the low fat version isn&#8217;t loaded with sugar. You also need to make sure that the low sugar version hasn&#8217;t had the sugar replaced with artificial sweeteners because this could be worse if weight loss is your ultimate goal.<BR><br />
<P><br />
2) If you are eating too much or your portion sizes are huge,that can be a problem. The larger the portions the more calories you are consuming and more calories means the likelihood of a few extra pounds evry so often. Try putting your food on a smaller plate and see if that works.<BR><br />
<P><br />
3) You should never think of exercise as being exercise or a job to do. Instead, look at it in a different way. For example, you could go swimming or walking with a friend and think of it as just a pastime instead a way of achieving  weight loss<BR><br />
<P><br />
4) Don&#8217;t let weight loss diets make you feel like you are denying yourself. Instead of thinking this way add new foods to your diet such as interesting fruits and vegetables. When people think of diets they think of having to go without, but, in this case you are adding instead of taking away.<BR><br />

5) If you have a probem with exercise or just don&#8217;t like it, then just walk whenever you can. Walking is a great form of exercise and many people don&#8217;t class it as exercise. You can also try to go up and down stairs more often or maybe get outside and do some gardening. Your weight loss will be enhanced when you embark on some exercises so don&#8217;t ignore this important part of your regime. Walking is such an easy and natural thing to do<BR><br />

6) Before eating your main meal, try to drink one or two glasses of water at least 25 minutes before eating. This will make you feel full and therefore you will eat less.<BR><br />

Most important, be patient when it comes to achieving your weight loss goal. Don&#8217;t try to lose too much weight all at once and realize that once you have lost the weight you will have to keep up with your healthier lifestyle to ensure you don&#8217;t gain weight again and start all over.<BR><br />
