I am about to share an article I found while cruising the Internet. It is written by USA Today. I was almost physically ill when I read it. It made me realize what an idiot I have been for almost 50 years of trying to lose weight. I have spent a small fortune on gyms, weight watcher meetings ,multiple types of weight loss diet plan, keeping various sizes of clothing available at all times, and all this time, all I had to do was write down what I was eating!<br />
<P><br />
According to this USA Today article, dieters who write down everything they eat each day lose twice as much weight as those who don&#8217;t and this is based on one of the largest weight-loss studies ever conducted. This confirms the importance of keeping a food diary — advice that nutritionists and weight loss programs have pushed for years. I do seem to remember being told to do this, but it flew right over my head.<br />
<P><br />
Scientists at four clinical research centers recruited 1,685 overweight or obese adults who weighed an average 212 pounds. Forty-four percent were African Americans.<br />
<P><br />
The participants were offered 20 weekly group sessions led by nutritionists and behavior counselors and encouraged to try to lose at least 9 pounds in six months. They were told to consume about 500 fewer calories a day, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, do about 180 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week, and keep daily food and exercise records. This was the only weight loss regime they had to perform. After 6 months, they found out that the ones who wrote down what they ate every day lost twice as much weight as the ones who didn&#8217;t. I am beside myself with anger. You mean to tell me I could be a size 8 instead of a size 16 if I had only written down what I was eating all these years. I figure the physical activity alone of writing all that down ought to amount to a few pounds of weight loss.<br />
<P><br />
Well, there you have it. The secret to weight loss has been found. Get those pencils out girls and start writing it all down and double your weight loss.<br />

Healthy weight management is a process that will work much better when it is looked at with a positive attitude. Healthy eating simply means following two basic steps: variety and moderation. Be very upbeat in your approach and motivate with lots of love. This is a very emotional time for teens, and the need to feel successful in this endeavor is very important. There are so many weight loss programs available today that it is very difficult to ascertain which one will be best for you. In 2005, Michael Dansinger MD from Tufts University conducted a trial that compared the effectiveness of 4 popular weight loss programs:- Atkins, Zone, Weight Watchers, and Ornish.<br />
<P><br />
160 participants aged between 22 years and 72 years with a mean BMI of 35 were randomly assigned to one of the 4 <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.com/10/weight-loss-programs/">weight loss programs</A>. The Atkins Diet was carbohydrate restricted, the Zone was macro nutrient balanced, the weight watchers diet was calorie restricted and the Ornish was fat restricted. The participants followed a supervised program for 2 months and then were left to follow the diet on their own. Unfortunately 22% left the study after 2 months.<br />
<P><br />
Each group had a modest increase of exercise throughout the trial.<br />
<P><br />
The overall results showed that all 4 <B>weight loss programs</B> had a measure of success depending on the level of adherence. The trial concluded that there was evidence to suggest that there was not one diet to suit all types. By the end of the trial more people had dropped out of the Ornish and the Atkins suggesting that many people found these weight loss programs too extreme and therefore more difficult to stick to. Perhaps if the participants had been able to choose which program to follow the results may have been better.<br />
<P><br />
The fact that one diet doesn&#8217;t suit all is a vital piece in the weight loss puzzle. We all have different metabolic rates and different ways of processing our food. If we know what these differences are then we can choose a <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.com/10/weight-loss-programs/">weight loss programs</A> that can be closely matched to our specific needs.<br />
<P><br />
However the bottom line would seem to be adherence to the program for more than just a few weeks. All <B>weight loss programs</B> will only be successful if the participant follows it properly 98% of the time. We all have our 2% lapses but the answer is to get back on the diet as soon as possible. It is also essential to realize that permanent changes need to be made if the weight loss program results are to be maintained.<br />

There are so many weight loss programs available today that it is very difficult to ascertain which one will be best for you. In 2005, Michael Dansinger MD from Tufts University conducted a trial that compared the effectiveness of 4 popular weight loss programs:- Atkins, Zone, Weight Watchers, and Ornish.<br />
<P><br />
160 participants aged between 22 years and 72 years with a mean BMI of 35 were randomly assigned to one of the 4 <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.com/10/weight-loss-programs/">weight loss programs</A>. The Atkins Diet was carbohydrate restricted, the Zone was macro nutrient balanced, the weight watchers diet was calorie restricted and the Ornish was fat restricted. The participants followed a supervised program for 2 months and then were left to follow the diet on their own. Unfortunately 22% left the study after 2 months.<br />
<P><br />
Each group had a modest increase of exercise throughout the trial.<br />
<P><br />
The overall results showed that all 4 <B>weight loss programs</B> had a measure of success depending on the level of adherence. The trial concluded that there was evidence to suggest that there was not one diet to suit all types. By the end of the trial more people had dropped out of the Ornish and the Atkins suggesting that many people found these weight loss programs too extreme and therefore more difficult to stick to. Perhaps if the participants had been able to choose which program to follow the results may have been better.<br />
<P><br />
The fact that one diet doesn&#8217;t suit all is a vital piece in the weight loss puzzle. We all have different metabolic rates and different ways of processing our food. If we know what these differences are then we can choose a weight loss program that can be closely matched to our specific needs.<br />
<P><br />
However the bottom line would seem to be adherence to the program for more than just a few weeks. All <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.com/10/weight-loss-programs/">weight loss programs</A> will only be successful if the participant follows it properly 98% of the time. We all have our 2% lapses but the answer is to get back on the diet as soon as possible. It is also essential to realize that permanent changes need to be made if the weight loss program results are to be maintained<br />

Before you reach for the rest of your sandwich, munch on a piece of fruit. Try to make the piece of fruit an apple or a pear. The crunchiness helps and takes longer to eat. Produce takes longer to eat and digest than other foods, which means you&#8217;ll have more time to notice you&#8217;re getting full. The following information is about weight loss tips to help you lose weight.  You know, ideas and tips from folks who have been there, done that, credible sources. You have looked in the mirror and made the decision it is now time to get serious about that 20-30-40 lbs you have been avoiding dealing with for years. Maybe it is not looking in the mirror that got you to this point. For me, who always avoided the mirror, it was a life crisis. I had a heart attack. After a long heart to heart talk with my cardiologist, no pun intended, I decided it was time to start the weight loss war. As a person who grew up in the South and who was fed meat, gravy and potatoes for most of my life, I was completely clueless to what this natural weight loss journey was going to entail. I will share a few of the basic principles I have discovered in the last fifteen years since the decision was made.<br />

Weight loss is something you have to control yourself. People can guide you, but this is something that you have to concur in your head. In my opinion this is all about will power and control. It is really hard to control, when all the good food tastes so darn good. When we eat we should be looking at portion size. Am I an expert, no but I have heard enough people talk about what you need to do for weight loss. Everyone looks for the next miracle pill to take off the weight without out doing anything. weight loss is accomplished by doing certain functions. I bet you can’t guess what they are?<BR><br />
<P><br />
Well just in case here is what I think.<BR><br />
Start mentally I’m not going to eat that.<BR><br />
When you see that food say you’re not eating it.<BR><br />
You may say self that is terrible for you to eat.<BR><br />
<P><br />
These are a few of the things that you can do to control your eating habits for weight loss.<BR><br />

Does this work, I think so! I’m trying to apply it now with my eating habits. I used the same process when I was smoking. I was a heavy smoker, I mean a heavy smoker! I started by saying these cigarettes stink, there disgusting, your clothes smell etc. After 25 days of doing this I noticed, I was not smoking that much of the cigarette eventually my daily consumption decreased, eventually quitting.weight loss was not a challenge as long as I was smoking there was no real weight loss challenge.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Weight loss became a challenge due to the fact all the food started to taste better after not smoking. We get into these unhealthy habits with eating and smoking. It was not easy to quit smoking, or continue on a weight loss program.<BR><br />
<P><br />
No one is perfect if you like food, all the gravy, sauces, especially bread and different types of food it can be difficult to control your eating habits. I know at night, I’m constantly looking to snack. Grazing like a cow in an open field! You need to put your mind to work for you in reducing your food intake. Just like smoking control the desire to snack. Once you decide you are going to do something about weight! Stuff starts to happen.<BR><br />

That’s a question you have to ask yourself.  Do you need a <B>weight loss</B> program to lose weight?  You know many years ago there were no weight loss programs because people were not fat. They did more physical work and ate healthier foods.  There were no fast food restaurants, no snack foods, no TV, no slick advertising campaigns pushing snack food and fast food restaurants at us. Today the average American does very little physical work and almost no exercise.<BR><br />
<P><br />
We are now known as an overweight society. We live in a fast world; eat in a lot of fast food. Stop! and start a weight loss program<BR><br />
<P><br />
Restaurants and consume an awful amount of snacks.  We do not have time to prepare our own meals.  There are now over 500,000 fast food restaurants worldwide and growing at a rapid rate.  The average American family eats out 4 times a week mostly at fast food restaurants.  Kids 6 to 14 are more likely to eat fast food than any other age group and they are getting fatter and fatter quicker than any other group. In addition to the fast food we (the American public) consume almost 5 billion lbs of snack food each year.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Let’s look at why this has such an impact on our weight. A Big Mac value meal with French fries contains 1010 Calories and 63 grams of fat.  Yet you are only supposed to have 65 grams of fat and 2000 calories or the entire day. Add a super-size coke to this meal and is it any wonder that we are getting fatter and need a <B>weight loss</B> program.<BR><br />
<P><br />
So what is the answer?  Well most experts will tell you to eat healthy nutritional meals, get plenty of exercise and a good night’s sleep. Kick the TV habit and take up some sort of exercise. Reduce your dependence on fast food restaurants and snack food.  If you do go to a fast food restaurant then maintain the recommended daily allowance of 2000 calories, 65 grams of Total Fat, 20 grams of Saturated Fat and 300 Carbohydrates.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Stick to these simple guidelines and you will not need a weight loss program.<BR><br />

You may have heard the term metabolism many times to do with weight but never really knew how they pertained to one another. Metabolism is the process that we use to convert food into energy. Many times you will be able to determine what a person’s metabolism is by watching them. A person with a high metabolism is energetic and likes to exercise their bodies with work or play. And a person with low metabolism may be lying on the couch watching TV with out any desire to get up and exercise. These may be extremes but often is right on the mark. When our bodies are working to full capacity, meaning our bodies are using their nutrients fully, our bodies are working as it should be with energy and activities.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Metabolism is always working in our bodies. We can’t see it or we can’t feel it, yet it is always in a running process. Our metabolism increases and decreases our weight. Our metabolism changes with our age, activity and diet. When you raise your metabolism you can receive weight loss. Our metabolism slows with age after the age of 35. This is why our weight increases as we get older and older people find it hard to have weight loss. We need fewer calories than we did when we are older, but our appetites don’t always agree, so we keep eating the same as we did before. This causes us to gain weight.<BR><br />
<P><br />
To make our metabolism increase we need to regularly do cardiovascular exercises. The best exercises that will increase the metabolism and help with increased energy and <B>weight loss</B> is walking, swimming, tennis, running and bicycling. As our age increases though we don’t have as much ambition to do these things that would be helpful. So our weight increases and our weight loss program goes out the window. The best time to exercise is in the morning to give our bodies a jump start; however any time of the day is helpful.<BR><br />

Your diet is also a way of affecting your metabolism. We should eat 7 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables, 40 to 50 grams of high protein and 20 to 35 grams of fiber. This balance of food will be filling and you will not be hungry. Sugars are not good to give your body energy but often are used for that. Proteins are much better as they convert to energy slowly and are thus more stable and a better source of energy. There are foods like walnuts, avocados and green olives that are good to supply plenty of energy and much better for you that the sugar that is often handy to snack on.<BR><br />

Our life styles have changed over the years. In my opinion the availability of fast food eating, prepared foods, all the different types of unhealthy foods have helped to put on some pounds. People may not be getting enough exercise, the invention of video games keeping children on the couch and not outside running around. The internet keeps folks glued to their screen! Couch potatoes are glued to TV sets.<BR><br />

To lose weight everyone should be doing a certain amount of exercise daily. You need to be walking for a half hour to one hour every day or every other day. You here these recommendations stated by your Doctor if you need to lose weight. You say your going to start tomorrow and tomorrow really doesn’t come. You think about it. You say I’ll get to it tomorrow and the next thing you know a month has gone by and you have done nothing. Remember, exercise is vital to any <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.net">weight loss</A> program.<BR><br />

You are not the only one not doing what is required for weight loss through exercise. Many people fall into that trap. Some folks are very good at exercising or walking every day. Then make a plan to walk a certain amount of days per week and how many miles you will walk each day. This is the easisest and most natural way to exercise.<BR><br />

You will need a pedometer. This will be helpful to check you’re self on how much walking you actually do for effective weight loss. There are charts to help you figure how many miles it takes to lose a pound. If you can join a walking group, you will find it helpful. You will realize you need to be there for them and they will be there for you. It is helpful to find some one in the group that can go the same speed as you walk. That way you will keep a better pace and so will they, helping both of you to have success. Once you start, it will be easy to continue with the exercise. weight loss is the goal.<BR><br />

When walking you will be burning calories and that means you are burning off excess fat and pounds. Your weight loss program is working. It is safe to lose ½ to 4 pounds a week. A genetic mutation associated with high body mass index (BMI) has been identified and has resulted in a suggestion that these people may be able to offset their increased risk for obesity through physical activity to achieve their desired <B>weight loss</B>. Exercise is essential in any weight loss program.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Fat mass and obesity associated gene variants have been associated with increased BMI, higher fat mass, and the presence of obesity in white adults and children. Others were excluded. These genetic variants are common, with up to 30% of some European populations identified as genetic carriers. They are also powerful and if their presence was realised, could assist in knowing how to achieve <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.net">weight loss</A>.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Each gene variant is associated with an increase in body weight. So far, these fat mass and obesity genes have been demonstrated to function in the hypothalamus and within fatty tissue.<BR><br />
<P><br />
This information was determined in a research project where 704 adult participants were all members of an Old Order Amish community in Pennsylvania. One of reason for choosing this community was because they all have very similar lifestyles. A very interesting study for this group.<BR><br />
<P><br />
The mean age was 43.6 years, and 53% of them were men. The mean BMI in women was 27.8 kg/m2, and the mean BMI in men was 25.7 kg/m2.<BR><br />
<P><br />
Everyone underwent a clinical examination, which included measurements of waist circumference and body composition. Each had an activity monitor attached to the hip which recorded their activity for seven consecutive days. They also underwent genotyping to identify fat mass and obesity associated gene variants. The main outcomes of the study were the interaction between fat mass and obesity associated gene variants and the presence of obesity and how physical activity modified this relationship.<BR><br />
<P><br />
For men, 54% were overweight and 10.% were obese. The women were 63.7% overweight and 30.5% obese. Researchers discovered 92 variants residing in the Fat mass and obesity associated gene, and 26 of these were associated with BMI.<BR><br />
<P><br />
For those familiar with gene science, rs1861868 was the variant most associated with BMI. Each A allele of rs1861868 was associated with a 2-kg increase in weight and a 0.75 increase in BMI. It was also discovered that this same gene variant also was associated with increased waist circumference, total fat mass, and percentage of fat mass.<BR><br />
<P><br />
The C allele rs1477196 was also associated with higher BMI (0.84 increase per risk allele). Both rs1861868 and rs1477196 significantly increased BMI only in participants in the lower half of the physical activity distribution. The odds ratio for obesity in less active individuals was 1.28 and 1.58 for each allele, respectively.<BR><br />
<P><br />
The differences in activity between the high and low activity strata was 860 calories for women and 980 calories for men. This difference would be best expressed as being  approximately 3 to 4 hours of moderately intense physical activity daily which indicates that noticeable <A HREF="http://healthy-weight-loss-programs.net">Weight loss</A> can be achieved by people if they are to increase their level of physical activity by just a moderate amount.<BR><br />
<P><br />
These fat mass and obesity associated gene variants are common and have been associated with BMI, fat mass, and the presence of obesity in white adults and children. <BR><br />
<P><br />
The results of the research reveals that fat mass and obesity associated gene variants were associated with increased BMI, and that these gene variants did increase the risk for obesity in individuals, but this was only if there was  lower than normal physical activity. Increased physical activity can be expected to offset these gene variations quite significantly. Successful Weight loss can be achieved by people with these gene variations.<BR><br />

Lose 10 lbs in the next 7 days and keep it off.  We have looked at the advertising material with the beautiful, slim, blond 18 year old claiming that she has been using this program and lost 30 lbs in a very short time. I would have to take that statement with a grain of salt.<BR><br />

Quick weight loss programs are not the safest and healthiest way to lose weight. Sure they will all work for awhile but as soon as you stop using the program you weight goes right back on.  They are not balanced and if you are not careful they could do you some harm. So do not stay on them for any extended period. Before you start any weight loss program and especially those of the quick weight loss category you should check with your doctor.<BR><br />
<P><br />
The following are some of the quick weight loss diets that you will find out there:  the Cabbage Soup Diet, Aitkin’s Diet, Chicken Soup Diet, 7 Day Diet, Russian Air force Diet, Bread and Butter Diet, Scarsdale Diet, Metabolism Diet, Grapefruit Diet and 3 Day Diet. There are too many out there to list here.<BR><br />
<P><br />
I have experienced the Aitkin’s Diet. This diet really works for me for the first two weeks or so. It is very simple to follow. It has few rules. Just reduce your carbohydrate intake to below 20 carbohydrates a day. You can eat a limited amount of low carbohydrate vegetables and all of the meats, eggs, fish and cheese that you want since they contain no carbohydrates. However, you cannot stay on this diet forever, so after two weeks you are asked to slowly reintroduce some High carbohydrate food back into your diet. It worked for me.<BR><br />
<P><br />
After losing 10 lbs in the first two weeks everytime that I have tried this diet and I must have tried it 10 or 12 times but sadly as soon as I start adding carbohydrates back into my diet my weight starts to come back on.  So stick to a balanced diet. A balanced diet is healthy and safe.<BR><br />

3. Keep your blood sugar (and your appetite) at an even keel all day long by not going any longer than 5 hours without having something to eat. Keep celery sticks, carrots, bell pepper strips close at hand for munchies. The crispy crunch helps weight loss by giving you a psychological boost.<br />

4.Eat multiple, healthy mini meals throughout the day rather than a few large ones. This does mean a candy bar! We are talking fruits and veggies here.<br />

If you have any medical challenges they can help reduce complications in dieting. There is so much out there that you may not know where there may be reactions to specific diets on weight loss. There are many weight loss programs available online and offline.<br />
One of the most popular weight loss programs is to choose foods according to their Glycemic Load (GL). All food has a glycemic index (GI) which is a qualitative measure that tells you whether the carbohydrate it contains is fast or slow releasing. The Glycemic Load tells you more about the effect that food will have on your weight, and whether or not it will cause you to put on weight. A most interesting weight loss program that makes sense.<BR><br />
<P><br />
If we believe the most effective weight loss program is to shed pounds by stabalizing your blood sugar and insulin response to food, then we need to pay attention to the ways to achieve this. Keeping the blood sugar balanced depends not only on what we eat but also when we eat it. If it works for you then luse it.<BR><br />
<P><br />
First we need to reduce the amount of carbohydrate in our diets. We also need to choose foods with a low glycemic-load (GL), combine carbohydrates with protein and cut back on stimulants and stress. For  weight loss on this diet it is important to make sure that you eat no more than 40 GL a day and at main meals you should eat low GL carbohydrates with protein rich foods.<BR><br />
<P><br />
How food is processed, is a key element in the GL of a type of food and effect it will have on your blood sugar. If you eat spaghetti if example your blood sugar levels and your insulin levels will rise quite gently until the body produces insulin and then they drop. However if you eat white bread they will rise twice as high and then drops down much lower. It is the peaks that damage your arteries making them less responsive to insulin and the troughs that leave you tired and sleepy and craving carbohydrates and or stimulants. It is strange that two foods made of roughly the same flour can have such different effects on the body. This is probably because bread is cooked longer than spaghetti. Needless to say eating white bread will do nothing to help you in your goal of weight loss.<BR><br />
<P><br />
The Glycemic Index levels indicate which foods raise your blood sugar compared to the effect of pure glucose. The more complex the carbohydrate, the lower the GI, as it will take longer for the sugar to be broken down and released into the blood stream . For example apples and oats are slow releasing and raisins and puffed rice cereal are fast releasing. Therefore, foods you choose to help you to lose weight should be from the Low Glycemic Index foods.<BR><br />
<P><br />
There is a problem with using just the GI score because as you will discover, certain foods such as carrots and chocolate have similar scores and it would be foolish to choose the chocolate over the carrots if you want to avoid the blood sugar highs and lows and ultimately weight loss. The Glycemic Load (GL) is a far better way of predicting the right foods to eat as it is an indicator of what a given serving of food will do to your blood sugar. Remember, balancing your blood sugar and insulin is the only sure way to lose weight and keep it off.<BR><br />
